How to check a Vietnamese lottery ticket correctly
Checking a ticket looks easy, yet every year people miss prizes by comparing the wrong way. Here is the correct method, in the order the lottery companies use.
The rule: compare from the last digits upward
Southern and Central tickets have 6 digits. You compare the ending of your ticket number with each prize:
- Last 2 digits match the 8th prize → 100,000đ.
- Last 3 digits match the 7th → 200,000đ.
- Last 4 digits match one of the three 6th-prize numbers → 400,000đ; the 5th → 1,000,000đ.
- Last 5 digits match one of seven 4th-prize numbers → 3,000,000đ; 3rd → 10 million; 2nd → 15 million; 1st → 30 million.
- All 6 digits match the Special → 2 billion đồng.
Northern tickets have 5 digits: last 2 against the 7th, last 3 against the 6th, last 4 against the 4th and 5th, all 5 against the rest and the Special (plus the Special code).
Two prizes people miss
- Special sub-prize (50 million): last 5 digits match the Special, only the first digit differs. Special 091891 → ticket 591891 wins it.
- Consolation (6 million): first digit matches and exactly one of the other five is wrong. Special 091891 → ticket 001891 (second digit wrong) wins it.
Common mistakes
- Wrong province. The South draws 3–4 provinces a day; a Đồng Tháp ticket is checked against the Đồng Tháp column only.
- Wrong date. A ticket is valid for the draw date printed on it.
- Comparing the first digits. Every prize is matched on the ending.
- Damaged tickets. Keep it flat and dry; badly damaged tickets can be refused.
